LA FINTA GIARDINIERA (The Pretend Gardener-Girl) (W. A. Mozart)

Mozart composed this opera at the age of eighteen. One year before the action begins, Count Belfiore, in a fit of passion, stabbed his lover, the Marchioness Onesti. He fled, believing that he killed her; she recovered from the wound, but her heart did not. Still deeply in love with him, she disguises herself as a gardener’s-girl, and accompanied by her servant, sets out to find Belfiore.
